The Job We Have To Do

Read: Mark 16:9f

Text: (Mark 16:15 KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Theme: Our job is to proclaim the gospel.

Introduction:

QUOTE (Curtis Hutson) - "The wisest man's description of a wise man is found in Proverbs 11:30, 'He that winneth souls is wise.'"

(Mark 16:15 KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Our job is to proclaim the gospel.

I. Our job is to proclaim the good news.

(Mat 28:18-20 KJV) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

(Luke 24:45-48 KJV) Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.

(John 20:21 KJV) Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

(Acts 1:8 KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

A. It is the job of every preacher and missionary.

(1 Tim 4:13 KJV) Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

(2 Tim 4:1-2 KJV) I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

ILLUS. Apostles realization that they needed to concentrate on the ministry of the word.

READ - Acts 6:1-4

ILLUS. Paul's view of the best kind of preacher:

(1 Tim 5:17 KJV) Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

B. It is the job of every BELIEVER.

(1 Pet 3:15 KJV) But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

ILLUS. - Method Jesus used to feed the 5000 is the only practical way to get the job done now: (Mat 14:19-20 KJV) And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

ILLUS. - Paul taught that the pastor is to proclaim by teaching others to proclaim!

READ - Eph. 4:11-12

(Mark 16:15 KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Our job is to proclaim the gospel.

II. Our job is to proclaim it to every creature.

A. "Every creature" includes our immediate family.

ILLUS. - Barnabus - (Acts 13:4 KJV) So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus. (Barnabus went to his home - Cyprus)

B. "Every creature" includes our friends and loved ones.

ILLUS. Maniac of Gadara - "Go home to thy friends…"

QUOTE (Oswald J. Smith) - "The only generation that can reach this generation is our generation."

C. "Every creature" includes our neighbors and townspeople.

ILLUS. Woman at the well: (John 4:28 KJV) The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

D. "Every creature" includes our nation.

ILLUS. Paul's concern for Israel (his nation) - (Rom 10:1 KJV) Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

E. "Every creature" includes our world.

(Mark 16:15 KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Our job is to proclaim the gospel.

III. Our job does not include worrying about the results.

(Mark 16:16 KJV) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

A. Some will not believe.

B. Because they do not believe, they are lost.

NOTE - Not because they are not baptized, but because they do not believe.

C. YOUR JOB IS NOT TO MAKE THEM BELIEVE, BUT TO PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS!

(And leave the results to God.)

ILLUS. Parable of the sower and the seed (Matthew 13) - the results have nothing to do with the sower (except for the fact that if he doesn't sow, there will be no results).

(Mark 16:15 KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Our job is to proclaim the gospel.

IV. BUT, the results cannot occur without the job being done.

(Rom 10:13 KJV) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

QUOTE (R. C. Sproul) - "Today, this day in human history, broke a record. More people died today on this planet without ever hearing the name of Jesus Christ, than died on any day since God created Adam and Eve. And, tomorrow will break today's record. The effort of the church to proclaim the gospel of Christ to the whole world is everyday falling behind the population explosion in nations that are ignorant of Christ."

QUOTE (F. B. Meyer) - "I believe that if there is one thing which pierces the Master's heart with unutterable grief, it is not the world's iniquity, but the Church's indifference."

A. Who will tell your family if you do not?

B. How will your friends and loved ones hear, if you don't tell them?

C. Who will care about our neighbors and townspeople if Christians don't?

D. How will there be any hope for our nation or our world if believers don't tell of the one true hope?

ILLUS. "Fred Somebody, Thomas Everybody, Pete Anybody, and Joe Nobody were neighbors, but they were not like you and me. They were odd people and most difficult to understand. They way they lived was a shame. All four belonged to the same church, but you couldn't have enjoyed worshipping with them. EVERYBODY went fishing on Sunday or stayed home to visit with friends. ANYBODY wanted to worship but was afraid SOMEBODY wouldn't speak to him, so NOBODY went to church. Really, NOBODY was the only decent one of the four. NOBODY did the visitation. NOBODY worked on the church building. Once they needed a Sunday School teacher. EVERYBODY though ANYBODY would do it, and SOMEBODY thought EVERYBODY would teach. Guess who did it? That's right… NOBODY. It happened that a fifth neighbor (an unbeliever) came to live among them. EVERYBODY thought SOMEBODY should try to win him: ANYBODY could have at least made an effort. Guess who finally won him to Christ? NOBODY."

QUOTE "They will not seek, they must be sought; they will not come, they must be brought; they will not study, they must be taught."

(Mark 16:15 KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Our job is to proclaim the gospel.

Conclusion:

(Mark 16:15 KJV) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
